Beyond the Ball Summer Sports Institute

the Jesse H. Jones School of Business
in collaboration with the School of Communication 
at Texas Southern University


Sports and entertainment are among the most aspirational fields for young men and women. Relatively few have a chance to become players or performers.  The business of sports offers numerous opportunities for those who love the game and want to be close to their favorite sport and earn a living, as well.

The TSU Beyond the Ball Summer Institute will introduce young men and women to jobs like Marketing Director, Communications Manager, Director of Research and Analytics, Digital Media Manager and Legal Counsel that are necessary in the daily operations of the front office within every major sports team.


This opens the 
for students 
to realize the 
business of sports 
“beyond the ball”.

For middle school students
Application fee: $75.00 per child
Application deadline: June 21, 2019

TSU FACTS: Texas Southern University (TSU) was formally established in 1947 with a mission to establish a credible college for African-American students.  Today, TSU offers a variety of academic programs to students of diverse backgrounds, cultures and levels of scholastic achievement. 

In 1973, the state designated TSU as “a special purpose institution of higher education for urban programming.”  Ascribing to the global implications of its urban mission, the University focuses on high quality teaching, research and public service as a means of preparing students for leadership roles in the urban communities of our state, nation and world.

Texas Southern University (TSU) is one of the nation’s largest historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs).  TSU provides a first class educational experience, offering over 120 baccalaureate, masters and doctoral degree programs in nine schools and colleges.  The University currently has over 10, 800 students enrolled.
