Lady Tigers track and field shows out at FasTrak Collegiate Open

On February 2nd, the Lady Tigers track and field team competed at the FasTrak Collegiate Open at the University of Houston.

Alexis Gray, who leads the SWAC in the 60-meter dash, was met with competition as she ran against Sharika Nelvis who was the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor 60-meter hurdle champion in 2014.

Alexis finished second, right behind Nelvis, in the 60-meter dash finals with a time of 7.66 seconds. She would also finish second in the 400-meter dash finals with a respectable time of 58.46 seconds.

In the 200-meter dash finals, Nicole Haroon finished third overall with a time of 25.57 seconds.

In the 800-meter run, Mariah Steward finished third overall with a time of two minutes and 35 seconds.

In the 60-meter hurdles, the Lady Tigers went two, three, and four as Kiya Reeves finished second with a top time of 9.25 seconds.

The women’s 4×400 meter relay A-team came away with the first place victory crossing the line at 3 minutes 59 seconds.

In the field events, Christelle Nintcheu out threw all the competitors in the Women’s Weight Throw and Shot put at 14.51 meters and 12.79 meters.

Last but not least, Rakayla Robertson triple jumped her way into the winner’s circle with a jump of 11.48 meters.

The Lady Tigers will be competing in the Indoor SWAC Championships February 14-15 in Birmingham Alabama.
